Hannah Usher review about company K Line Plumbing
Stay away from K line Plumbing. They over charge and do not do work as agreed upon! My mother and I hired K line plumbing to dig up and replace a frost free hydrant, and install a shut off valve and access riser on a PVC water line. Friday evening K Line can out looked at it gave me a price on the hydrant ($147) and valve($53) and said it shouldn’t cost too much after that to get the work done then he left. We started to dig out the hydrant that evening, it was ½ dug out when K line came back out the next morning. (We are slow diggers as mom has MS and I have R.A.) and then he had to leave almost immediately for some reason. So we kept digging. By the time they came back by that evening the hydrant was completely dug out and he said he would come by in the morning to put the hydrant on. He never even dug one shovel full of dirt but no big deal we figured it would save a bit of money. The morning of the third day he brought out this huge 2 foot assembly of plumbing parts and the hydrant. He installed them in 15 minutes and we immediately noticed the hydrant was way too tall, 4.5’ above ground. When we questioned it, K line said it would be a week or two before he could get a shorter one and he needed to be paid before he could get it. This set off all sorts of alarm bells as he hadn’t even filled in the hole. Right after that he said he had to go and would be back later and left. We called him and asked what we owed and that is when we got a huge sticker shock $500+ for this job. We asked for the itemized bill. We were charged for diagnosing a problem when there was no problem to diagnose, we knew we wanted the hydrant replaced, we were charged for material pickup and delivery from a town 60 miles away when the parts were available locally and K line is a local company. He used very expensive bass parts where PVC parts would have been beyond adequate. On top of all of that he charged for 2.5 hours of labor at $95 an hour when he didn’t even do 30 minutes of work on this job. When questioned about it he just kept saying he was a master plumber and worth that kind of pay. We told him if he would have done the work (Dug out the Hydrant, replaced, and back filled the hole) we would have no problem paying this amount or more but We weren’t going to pay for work he didn’t do He agreed to only charge $115 for labor and $270 for parts. Still outrageous for what he did but we paid it to save the hassle of small claims court. We ended up filling in the hole and using the hydrant as is. We should have taken off the parts he put on and refused to pay but we didn’t, now I am posting this as a warning to other who may consider using K lines services.
