Mr. Handyman of Kalamazoo-St. Joseph

I contacted them about specific jobs I needed done: replace roof vent cover, reattach bottom rail for skirting to the cement, change outside light fixtures, repair screen on back porch. The man came out - very nice - and the frustration began. He said he wasn't allowed on the roof due to insurance issues. He didn't have the drill and bit he needed to do the skirting. And he couldn't figure out how to repair the screen. (All he needed to do was gently remove the white cover strip and repair it like you would any other screen.) He did change out the six outside light fixtures. He had a few minutes left, so I had him glue a couple pieces of trim inside my home. I would never have hired them had I known they could not do the work!! So for the work that was done, it cost me $443 after the $50 off coupon. And he left his ladder in my back yard, I let the company know the following day, and was still there a week later. I would never hire this company again!!

Recently, I was renovating/finishing my basement and was in need Dry Wall Instillation. I called around to 3 services in the Kalamazoo area. Mike (owner) of Mr. Handyman had a very competitive quote. I had a strict deadline to start work within the next week once framing was completed. Mike, was able to deliver a quote the next day, and just like that we had an agreement to do business. Mike, was very attentive, and easy to get a hold of as was Dawn at the office. They both communicated all the details, of when the hangers would come, then the finisher's as well. During the construction of the project, Mike was extremely helpful with "Construction questions" from a DYI'r. After the finishing of the dry wall was complete, there were a 3 super small areas size of a quarter that needed a touch up (which after doing nearly 800 sq of walls and ceiling, is very good margins). Mike sent his guys back to sand the areas, and gave it his seal of approval. I highly recommend Mike and his team for Dry Wall services.

I hired Mr. Handyman to clean out the gutters and to replace a piece of siding near the roof. I was charged 2.5 hours to clean the gutters and 2.5 hours to replace a piece of siding that was 1 foot. I called to discuss why it took so long to put 1 piece of siding up and was told they would call me back after talking with the technician. Never heard from them. I called a second time to discuss the issue and offered to pay for the gutters and the rest once I had talked with someone. I was told they do not accept partial payments and would have some call me. Never called. After the third time of the same thing, I paid the bill since I was threatened it would go to collections. Would not recommend: Overcharge; no communication 2.5 hours to put up a foot of siding; no communication despite several calls

Friendly service but took too long to do the job on top of being over an hour late. Spent $400 to get locks changed on 4 doors. Then another $200 for a screen door installation. $600 for a screen door and some locks? No. Great guy but with the hourly rate and the length of time taken to complete the tasks it was not worth the money. Also, took days to get my invoice.

1. From early January 2018: Max is doing an amazing job working on our 104 year old house building a wall. 2. Later update from very late Jan 2018: So Mr Handyman kept working on our house doing the next project, which was to rip out a very large tile shower in our upper level and turn it into a laundry area. It turned out to be a very very involved project, very difficult, challenging at times. And to get to the point, Mr. Handyman's two workers, Max and Matthew were simply wonderful! They showed up, got to it, and got it done over the course of a few weeks. Often their boss, Mike, who I believe is the owner of the company, would often stop by and check in to monitor the project. We just got the washer and dryer into today, and it looks simply amazing! We are really happy now as the project is wrapping up. Also, the two employees, Matthew and Max were wonderful, calm, patient, soft-spoken great presences to have in the house around our children and pets. I almost started to look forward to seeing them in the morning when they showed up just to say hi to them! If you want a company you can have confidence in, and who is larger than just a small handyman, insured and all that, with very fair prices, and stellar workers, this is the company.
