Hutzel Plumbing & Heating Company

I've used Hutzel when my furnace went out and when my AC wasn't working (separate occasions, thankfully). I called at peak times, so they could come out immediately, but when they did, the technician was fast, efficient, and did not try to sell me on anything I didn't need. It was low-pressure and high-quality.

Bad business practices! They sent out a plan in promotional mail for, among other things, one-time air conditioning inspection for $105. I called and mentioned the plan and the dispatcher scheduled an appointment. After the services rendered, I get a bill for double the amount. When I call to complain, they say you have to submit payment prior to services rendered to get the 'discount'. Even if not per se fraud since the fine-print says you have to mail in the check, it is clearly misleading as they are being sent in promotional advertising campaign. The dispatcher should have mentioned that I would not receive the advertising price, and in fact, i would be charged double! This gives you a feel for their business culture.

Wow...they charge 3 times the amount of what a normal Plumber charges...highway robbery...I called to negotiate the bill, the owner said yes we are a lot higher...they get paid more than lawyers...they showed up did the work, but it should have only cost $98.00 to install a garbage disposal...they charge $277.66. I provided the disposal:(

Hutzel was Fantastic to work with! The evening of 12/22, my main water line to my house broke, out of 8 companies, Barb returned my call first thing on Monday, came out on Wednesday morning and had the quote to me within a few hours. Schedule the work on 1/7, Bud, John and Robert did a fantastic job in digging the hole, pulling the new line through, cleaning up after themselves both inside my home and outside in my yard and street. You've saved me money and landscaping repairs!!! Warren the inspector came out as soon as he could to inspect and approve the work. Honestly, Barb, Bud, John, Robert and Warren treated me like a relative and I really appreciate their kindness and their diligent work. I would definitely recommend Hutzel Heating and Cooling! Thank-you Barb, Bud, John, Robert and Warren!! We (Cooper, Ruby and I) really appreciate all of you so much!!

Tuesday afternoon my living room baseboard heat pipe ruptured and it was about 10° outside. So, faced with no heat and water damage I first notified my homeowners insurance claims department and then set out to find a repair company. Not every company works on boilers and Hutzel came recommended by a local repair man in Milan. So when I called Tuesday afternoon I was informed that they were running at overtime rates with a two hour minimum until Friday so I said go ahead and put me down for Friday and I would just tough it out with space heaters until then. Being off work one entire year and surviving on 50% of my pay for six months of that I couldn’t afford the overtime rates having just gotten back on my feet solidly financially. Friday morning came and no one had called to give me a timeframe so I called at 9 o’clock to inquire and was told that I was not on their schedule anywhere. How can this be??? After speaking with a couple people I was told that someone would be out and he would call when he was on his way. 1 o’clock came no call so I called the office and was told the same thing “he’s coming he will call first”. 4 o’clock came still no call I called the office “he still coming he’ll call you” and I just told the lady that I need to know if I needed to call off work Since I am scheduled at 7 PM Night Shift and was ASSURED that he was coming so I called off for my third night in a row and shorted my unit where I am a nurse at U of M hospital and missed out and some substantial cash. GUESS what... he never called nor came and now it’s the weekend where it’s all overtime rates of which I was trying to avoid. I called the answering service and left a message explaining the above story and was told she would give it to management. I am extremely frustrated, disappointed and not sure if I should be looking for another company if there is another company that works on boilers in this area. it’s pretty cold outside And space heaters are OK but can’t heat your entire house the way it’s required.
