Untrustworthy! In December 2018, I paid Steve Corrigan £390 to install a Triton power shower in my bathroom. Over the next few months, I noticed that it often took a long time to start, and by May this year it was often failing to start altogether, so I called in a Triton engineer under the terms of the 1-year guarantee. After removing the shower cover, he said immediately that the problem was an installation fault, as the blanking plugs (which regulate the flow of air) had not been fitted. He charged me £75 to fix the problem, and provided me with a receipt stating that the problem was an installation fault. So I then sent Mr Corrigan a copy of the Triton receipt and requested that he reimburse me for the £75, but he has refused to do so. He claims that I should have contacted him first before making a claim on the guarantee, and that it’s “not obvious” that his work is to blame, since the blanking plugs could have “fallen out or become damaged.” He also questions why the shower has worked up until now, if he installed it incorrectly. I responded that I’m within my rights to make a claim on the guarantee (the shower looked to have been installed correctly), and that it’s unreasonable to doubt the Triton engineer’s assessment that the blanking plugs were missing, as opposed to their having fallen out or become damaged, since the shower unit had not been opened up between the plumber’s visit and that of the Triton engineer. As to why the shower could have continued working up to now if it had been fitted without the blanking plugs, the Triton operating manual states that "Failure to fit the blanking plugs will result in the unit working erratically." That is exactly what happened – it worked, but increasingly erratically, before stopping altogether. Mr Corrigan has not replied to these points, and his silence speaks volumes. I will not be asking him to do any more work for me.
