JCW Saunders were used by my home insurance company when our domestic heating and hot water failed. It seems we were unfortunate in that the JCW Saunders' engineer ('engineer 1') originally sent to our job was incompetent. Engineer 1 made a diagnosis without looking inside the boiler and ordered 2 parts to be sourced and fitted the following week. He informed me that the immersion heater could not be turned on, so we couldn't even have hot water while we waited. 5 days later, Engineer 2 turned up with the parts and was surprised that the first part was the wrong type (a valve) and the second part (a PCB board) didn't even exist in our boiler. He also turned on the immersion heater instantly saying we can have hot water (after 5 days going without hot water, unnecessarily). He informed us that Engineer 1 had subsequently been fired for incompetence. Engineer 2 was excellent - and sourced the correct part that day and fixed the boiler. I should also mention that I spent a lot of time trying to call JCW Saunders during this episode, spending a lot of time on hold (ironically hearing a looped message saying how all it's staff were dedicated to great service) and speaking to disinterested and at times rude staff. I was informed that the excess payment I made to them to cover the service would be refunded (hopefully imminently) but the promised confirmation email didn't arrive. Overall, I would say it's obviously pot luck whether you get a decent engineer for your job from JCW Saunders (clearly many people are happy with the service received, judging my other reviews), but in our experience you are clearly taking a chance, and if issues arrive you are unlikely to get much interest by calling the office. Overall, I'd certainly prefer to go to a smaller company in the future that takes more care about the engineers it employs and shows a genuine interest in providing excellent service (rather than just telling me this while I'm on hold for 20 minutes!).
