I needed a new toilet seal and a pocket door repair. The technician phoned and said he could come two hours earlier than the appointed time, which he did. He repaired the toilet but said he would have to return for the door repair since it was getting late. He returned four days later and was able to come early again. He had estimated 4 hours to repair the door but it only took 2.5 hrs. so I paid for 3 hrs. I was very satisfied with the work, the technician and the clean up. I would say the price was average to slightly above average. I would use them again and recommend them.
We hired Jordan through Mr Handyman and were thrilled with the outstanding job he did refinishing our large wood front door and side lights. Bonus--he's a super nice guy! Also I worked with Pam in the office and she was just excellent. Very professional, super prompt replies, and so easy to work with on this project! Highly recommend Mr.Handyman, and especially Jordan!!
The spigot in the front of my home was broken. I called them for a estimate, but they don't do that. If they came for a estimate, it would be a $50 service fee, in addition to the price of work. However, if I agreed to complete the work the fee would be waved. Over the phone I was given an initial estimate of $150-$200. He arrived, turned the main water off, then pulled the spigot off the piping before giving me a estimate. At this point, the work had to be completed because the piping was exposed. I was giving an estimate of $225+materials. Upon and completing the work I was given a bill for $422. They attempted to nickle and dime me with about of fees they had not told me about. The tech said $73 in parts, but did not produce receipts when I asked. Then they said all parts are marked up 30% for the warranty they offer. The tech said the parts were marked up at 10%, but when I asked him to show me his math he multiplied "$73*0.7". They reported a fee for driving to the hardware store, using their tools to complete the work, and gas/shopping time. He only spent $30 bucks on copper, I know because I checked Menards. They were never able to produce a cost analysis that gave a breakdown of services rendered, I just had to take their word. There was no transparency, only a bill with little to know explanation as to why the initial estimate doubled. We were able to settle on a mutually agreed amount, but it was still higher then the estimate. I talked to the manager, and he basically let it slip that they're franchise and can charge whatever they want on a sliding scale. The work was completed. He did a half job at cleaning behind himself but whatever. Here's my 0.2¢. Be careful of the okeydoke. When he gave me the final bill he attempted to make me feel I got a good deal because "we just knocked off about 50 bucks because he wanted to charge you close to $500”.
Customer service was great until I had issues & because of that I'll be filing in Small Claims Court it appears. On April 1, 2019 the company sent a 75 year old technician to paint my porch's ceiling & two pillars. Unfortunately, the work was not satisfactory & I did pay the $400 prior to seeing all the flaws. I saw the various mistakes & took pictures & sent them to Lowell, the owner of the company. I found him to be very friendly and he wanted to make sure I was satisfied. He sent another technician with 20 yrs of construction experience who did correct the ceiling's various paint strokes which & remove the fingerprint marks from one area of my siding and quite a bit of paint specks from my new entry door. I wasn't 100% satisfied but I did ask the company for additional work which was not a HUGE project. I needed painting above my garage door as well as the trim. The work was NOT good. I texted the owner & submitted my pictures asking for reimbursement, & not a total refund. He wanted to send the technician out again & I declined. I've given the owner till noon to respond, but not hopeful. I had only seen good reviews which is why I called them. I was wrong apparently. For months there was NO caulking above my garage door & I've had to hire an excellent company who found the wood was rotted. I paid Mr. Handyman for what??? This would not have happened if the tech had caulked. I do NOT recommend this company since Lowell Puhlmann, the owner is not using a valid address as stated on his business card & elsewhere. I had filed a small claims petition & was set for court in August & the Sheriff said there is NO business there. Also stating cobwebs hanging over the door at the address given to me when I hired Mr. Handyman. I'm now having to refile all documents with the court & obtain a new court date. Lowell Puhlmann, the owner only wanted to prorate $145 for work his tech forgot to do! He's also verbally attacked me to the BBB saying I gave him anxiety! Not a professional statement to make whatsoever. I will see him in court. I hope people who read this, will be careful & not have to deal with what I'm going through. I also want to warn those of Pam Siegfried who is the customer service rep for Mr. Handyman. She asked me how I found their company which was through Google & good reviews which I'm now finding out were probably falsified by non-customers!! She cannot be trusted based on a lie she told to the BBB of an alleged conversation she had with me regarding another company & saying I took them to court which was NOT true. Lowell Puhlmann deflects his problems on to the innocent people like me & this has to STOP now. All information will be told to the judge once I have another hearing.
I filled out the online form requesting a number of repairs for a bathroom. That was 3 days ago and no one has contacted me. It’s unfortunate because I have a number of small projects that I would have hired them for based on how the bathroom repairs were completed.
