Had a smell coming from house. Plumber gets out of his truck and comes up with some ideas and charges $85 to give us an estimate of $1500 to redo piping under the house. After he leaves I crawl under the house and find the actual problem which is the cast iron pipe is rotted and leaking. I cut it out with a sawzall and added couplings and replaced with PVC for a total of $50 in materials. Waste of time and money calling them, very dissatisfied and feel taken. EDIT: in response to owners reply, what a wonderful diagnosis “just replace everything” is. We were aware that could be it but we wanted it fixed. He never even went under the house. He mentioned to my father replacing the entire piping because of “hairline cracks” that could smell. Regardless even if your plumber did see all the standing water and tell us about it, I only had about $10 worth of fittings and 6ft of pipe to replace to do the job quoted for. I understand no one works for free, but it’s hard to pay someone for no work being done.
