Mr. Handyman of Virginia Beach

Pretty disappointed by the service provided by Mr. Handyman to clean our gutters. The second star is because the associate who came out was friendly, and did clean up everything on the ground before he left, which was great! Unfortunately, the service we paid to have done, was only partially completed, and for the price of $246, this is disappointing. It is a messy and tough job for sure, and probably worth that price, but only if it's done satisfactorily. The reason we don't just clean the gutters ourselves is because our second story gutters are very difficult to reach without a very tall ladder that we would have no use for other than gutter cleaning. The first story of gutters are very easy to reach, and very easy to clean, and we often do this ourselves until the second story needs to be cleaned. On May 8, Mr. Handyman came out and spent over two hours cleaning our gutters. On May 14th, we had our next hard rain. At that time it was clear that the easy gutters had been cleaned impeccably, but the main gutter that we are unable to reach, the one that necessitated calling Mr. Handyman in the first place, was barely touched, if touched at all, because water was just pouring over the top of the gutter and down the roof. This is also the gutter that runs next to our master bedroom, so when rainwater pours over the sides, it keeps us up all night hammering and clanging etc. This gutter also continues to dribble out water up to two days after the rain has ended, making it clear that the downspout is still filled with debris and the water is just sitting in it. There are no trees near this gutter, so there is very little chance that it was cleaned and then re-clogged in the 6 days between the cleaning and the rain.

I was hesitant to use a handyman service, just because I didn't know the quality of work the techs could provide, but I can tell you right now it's better than the "class A contractor" that was hired to do the remodels on the house we just purchased. While my final price seemed pricey for hanging up blinds, I was extremely satisfied. This company charges by the hour, no matter what is needed. From the original quote and scheduling to the tech walking out of my house, everything was extremely professional. Our tech, Dwayne, went above and beyond with his service. He made sure to explain everything to me throughout the process, asked me how I would like him to proceed when we ran into issues (due to the window frames - not issues on his end), and also pointed out several items, unrelated to the work he was there to do, that need attention. As a first time homebuyer, that just purchased this house a week ago, I appreciated that he took the time to not only do the work I needed done today, but to also provide me with advice and guidance on a few upcoming projects. I will be using Mr. Handyman again, and quite often if this is how every experience will be.

I am extremely disappointed in their service. I am selling my home, and am approaching the deadline to listing. The pool switch was broken, and the handyman assured me he would fix it. He failed to do so during his first visit, so I made a second appointment. He waited until the end of the job to tell me the company doesn't do electrical work. I had to scramble to find an electrician at the last minute. He AND the appointment scheduler should have told me upfront they wouldn't be able to do the job, instead of misleading me during several conversations. It was very stressful and frustrating to be misled. I will never use this service again!

On time, professional and friendly. He made certain he understood exactly what needed to done before beginning work. He carried an entire heavy bathroom sink cabinet unit down the stairs because he didn’t want to make a mess by sawing it apart in our bathroom. Very pleased with this company and their work!
